MTG Marvel Super Heroes: Week 3 Spoilers — Iron Man, Thor, and the Teamwork Mechanic Revealed

The MTG: Marvel Super Heroes Preview Prologue dropped this week, bringing 31 official card reveals — 14 main set cards, 4 Commander exclusives, and 13 bonus sheet reprints. The big story: the Avengers are here, and Iron Man alone gets two distinct card versions. Here’s everything genuinely new.

Iron Man, Master of Machines — The Artifact Engine

Iron Man comes in two distinct versions, and Master of Machines is the value-oriented build-around. A 1/4 with flying and vigilance, he gets +1/+0 for each other artifact you control — meaning in a dedicated artifact deck he quickly becomes one of the most threatening attackers on the board. More importantly, whenever Iron Man attacks and an artifact entered the battlefield under your control this turn, you draw a card.

This reward engine is straightforward and powerful. Running artifact ramp pieces, equipment, or token-generating artifacts means nearly every attack cycle replaces itself in hand. In Commander, this is the kind of consistent card draw that keeps you ahead in long games. He slots naturally into the Avengers Assemble precon (White/Blue/Red) and any artifact-heavy Commander build.

Iron Man, Bleeding Edge — The Spell Doubler

The second Iron Man version takes a more explosive approach. Bleeding Edge has flying and a once-per-turn spell copy ability: whenever you cast an artifact spell, you may copy it. Once per turn.

This is exceptionally strong in Storm-adjacent or combo-oriented builds. A single Bleeding Edge in play means every artifact spell you cast generates a free copy — treasure tokens, Mox-type rocks, powerful equipment. The ceiling is high. In competitive Commander contexts, this is the Iron Man version that will draw attention.

Two Iron Man versions also means the character gets meaningful design representation — you can run both in a 99-card deck, or choose which one better fits your strategy as your Commander.

Thor Odinson — Double Prowess God

Thor Odinson is a 4/4 with flying, vigilance, and prowess twice over — listed as having the keyword twice on the card, which means each noncreature spell you cast triggers the +1/+1 until end of turn bonus twice, giving +2/+2 per spell.

A 4/4 flyer that grows by +2/+2 for every spell you cast in a turn is a legitimate threat in any spell-heavy strategy. In the Avengers Assemble deck (White/Blue/Red), which will naturally run interaction and support spells, Thor rapidly becomes very difficult to block profitably. One counterspell, one removal spell, one cantrip — and Thor is already an 8/8 with flying for that combat step.

Double prowess is an elegant way to represent Thor’s power scaling with divine energy — and mechanically it’s the cleanest implementation of a mythic-level legendary creature demanding removal immediately.

Agent Maria Hill — The Teamwork Payoff

Agent Maria Hill introduces a mechanic called Teamwork — a new cost type for the Marvel set. When a card asks for a teamwork cost, you can tap a creature you control (including itself) to pay it. Agent Maria Hill is a 2/1 legendary creature that draws a card and puts a +1/+1 counter on herself whenever she becomes tapped to pay a teamwork cost.

Teamwork as a mechanic is Marvel’s representation of Avengers cooperation — paying costs by having characters work together. Maria Hill as a two-drop that draws a card and grows every time someone pays a teamwork cost is a strong support piece in decks built around the mechanic. She’s not a win condition on her own, but in a Heroes-tribal build where teamwork costs appear frequently, she generates significant value.

This is also the first time we’re seeing Teamwork in action — expect more cards in the set to reference this mechanic. Maria Hill is likely an early indicator of how many cards include teamwork costs.

Ronin, Shadow Stalker — Equipment Mana Engine

Ronin (the hero formerly known as Clint Barton before retaking the Hawkeye mantle) is a Equipment-focused legendary creature. Ronin generates mana specifically for Equipment spells and equip abilities — functioning as a specialized ramp piece for Equipment-heavy builds. Additionally, he can sacrifice an Equipment to give a creature debuffs until end of turn, providing interaction alongside the ramp.

Equipment decks have always needed ways to accelerate through equip costs, which are typically expensive enough to slow down aggressive strategies. Ronin addresses this directly. He slots naturally into the Avengers Assemble precon alongside Captain America, Team Leader, who rewards playing equipment-holding heroes.

The Teamwork Mechanic — What We Know So Far

The emergence of Agent Maria Hill and Ronin’s design points to Teamwork being a significant mechanical identity for the set’s hero faction. Here’s what we know:

Teamwork costs appear on card abilities as an additional cost that can be paid by tapping a creature. Cards that pay or care about teamwork costs receive bonuses — Maria Hill’s card draw and counter growth being the clearest example. Expect the Avengers Assemble Commander precon to be heavily Teamwork-focused, with Captain America, Team Leader as the payoff commander for assembling a board of heroes working in concert.

The Bonus Sheet: 13 Reprints with Marvel Art

The Preview Prologue confirmed 13 bonus sheet reprints — powerful existing Magic cards that will appear in the Marvel set with entirely new Marvel-themed artwork. The bonus sheet reprints are a significant collector draw: these are cards with established competitive value receiving premium Marvel art treatments.

Specific bonus sheet contents will be confirmed during full spoiler season (June 12). Historically, Magic’s bonus sheets have included format staples that spike in value when collector versions debut. Given the Marvel IP, expect these to command significant premiums in collector booster pulls.

Week 3 at a Glance
