Short answer: The most expensive cards in Pokémon 30th Celebration are the three RGB Rare Mew cards: red, blue and green versions that have sold for about $3,750 to $4,600 each on TCGplayer. They’re so rare that TCGplayer opened more than 3,000 packs without finding one. Below them, the Classic Collection Lugia (about $200) and Charizard (about $148) lead, followed by the Mew ex Special Illustration Rare (about $89). Packs hit often, but the top cards are long shots, so buy the single you want.

How rare are the RGB Rare Mew cards?
Too rare to measure. TCGplayer opened more than 3,000 packs of 30th Celebration for its pull-rate study and didn’t find a single RGB Rare. The Pokémon Company hasn’t published official odds, and fan estimates vary too much to trust.
There are three of them, all the same Mew illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN in a different color: R/RGB (red), G/RGB (green) and B/RGB (blue). The card’s own flavor text says Mew is “still said to be a mirage by many experts.” The red one sells for the most, and the green one for the least: its most recent sale was $2,950.
What are the 30th Celebration pull rates?
30th Celebration packs have only 5 cards, but they hit far more often than a normal set. Every pack ends with a guaranteed Pikachu Rare, and TCGplayer found a hit in about every three packs. Here are its odds per pack:
| Rarity | Odds per pack | About 1 in |
|---|---|---|
| Double Rare | 21.0% | 5 packs |
| Illustration Rare | 19.7% | 5 packs |
| Classic Collection | 10.2% | 10 packs |
| Special Illustration Rare | 4.9% | 21 packs |
| Futuristic Rare | 0.8% | 120 packs |
| RGB Rare | Not found | Unknown |
Those odds cover a whole rarity. A specific card is much harder: with 30 Classic Collection cards, any one of them, like Lugia, works out to about 1 in 300 packs. Each of the 10 Special Illustration Rares is about 1 in 200 packs.
Which Classic Collection cards are worth the most?
Classic Collection cards are reprints of famous cards from the last 30 years, with a 30th anniversary stamp. These are the most valuable:
| Classic Collection card | Market (Oct 24) |
|---|---|
| Lugia | $209 |
| Charizard | $163 |
| Magikarp | $83 |
| Gengar (Prime) | $55 |
| Pikachu & Zekrom GX | $28 |
| Shining Celebi | $25 |
| Mew VMAX | $23 |
| Darkrai & Cresselia LEGEND (top) | $22 |
Most of the other 22 Classic Collection cards sell for $4 to $21.
Which Special Illustration Rares are worth the most?
| Special Illustration Rare | Sells for |
|---|---|
| Mew ex 152/128 | $89 |
| Gengar ex 154/128 | $66 |
| Pikachu ex 150/128 | $58 |
| Pikachu ex 149/128 | $48 |
| Mewtwo ex 151/128 | $46 |
| Sylveon ex 153/128 | $40 |
| Jirachi ex 155/128 | $38 |
| Greninja ex 148/128 | $21 |
| Salamence ex 156/128 | $15 |
| Fuecoco ex 147/128 | $14 |
The average Special Illustration Rare is worth about $44. At about $11 a pack, you’d spend around $238 on packs to pull one on average, so opening packs for value is a losing bet.
Should you buy packs, an Elite Trainer Box or singles?
- Want one of these cards? Buy the single. Even the $14 Fuecoco ex is cheaper as a single than the roughly 200 packs it takes on average to pull it.
- Want to open packs? Get the Elite Trainer Box from Amazon if you can: Amazon sells it for $59.99 by invitation (request an invite on the product page), $10 over its $49.99 MSRP and about half its $119 TCGplayer price.
- Single packs sell for about $11 each on TCGplayer, and the Booster Bundle is about $72.
- More product options: our 30th Celebration what-to-buy guide covers every box, tin and battle deck.
What to skip
- Chasing an RGB Mew with packs. Nobody can tell you the odds, and the cards cost $3,000 to $4,600 as singles.
- Elite Trainer Boxes at $119. That’s more than double MSRP. Try the Amazon invite or a store at retail first.
- The Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box at resale prices. Its TCGplayer market price is about $287.
- Leaving a big pull unprotected. Sleeve and toploader it right away. Here’s how to protect trading cards.
