The big returns

Sakamoto Days Season 2 picks up with the JCC arc, as Sakamoto and Shin go undercover at Japan’s assassin academy. Netflix has only said January so far; our Sakamoto Days Season 2 guide has the details.

Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 has the firmest date of the season: January 10 on Crunchyroll, with C2C animating again. Mashle Season 3 adapts the Divine Visionary final exam arc at A-1 Pictures. One Punch Man Season 3 Part 2 brings back J.C.Staff for the second half of Season 3, and JAM Project returns for the opening theme.

THE ONE PIECE: the remake starts in February

WIT Studio’s THE ONE PIECE retells Eiichiro Oda’s story from the beginning (full guide here). Netflix releases all seven first-season episodes at once in February 2027, covering the East Blue from Luffy’s first steps to the Baratie, where he meets Sanji. Masashi Koizuka (Attack on Titan) directs, and it’s separate from Toei’s long-running series, which keeps going.

New shows worth a look

Sekiro: No Defeat adapts FromSoftware’s Sekiro as a fully hand-drawn, eight-episode series, released weekly on Crunchyroll from January. An edited version already played in Japanese theaters starting September 4, 2026, and the series adds scenes that weren’t in that cut.

The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All (CloverWorks, January 8) is a music-store romance: Aya falls for a stylish employee at her local CD shop, not realizing the “guy” is her female classmate. Hirayasumi and Historie are well-loved manga getting their first anime, and SSS-Class Revival Hunter adapts the hit Korean web novel.

Anime movies early in 2027

  • ghost: end of night (Madhouse, an original film): February 11 in Japan
  • Medalist movie (ENGI): February 19 in Japan
  • Date A Live movie: March 26 in Japan

US release dates for these haven’t been set.

What’s missing from the winter list

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 (The Culling Game Part 2) is in production but has no date; its next update is expected at Jump Festa on December 19 and 20. If it gets a January slot, it will shoot straight to the top of this list.
