If you haven’t started The Boys Season 5 yet, stop what you’re doing. Prime Video’s most brutal, brilliant, and uncomfortably relevant superhero series is in the middle of its final run — and based on the first five episodes, it’s going out swinging harder than ever.

Episode 5, “One-Shots,” dropped on April 29, 2026, which means we’re exactly halfway through the eight-episode farewell season. If you’re caught up, you already know things have escalated to a terrifying new level. If you’re not — buckle up, because here’s everything you need to know about the final chapter of The Boys.

Where Season 5 Picks Up

Season 5 wastes zero time easing you in. Homelander — played with terrifying brilliance by Antony Starr — now has unfettered power over America. With Vought’s grip on the government complete, it’s quite literally Homelander’s world. Everyone else is just living (or not living) in it.

Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), and Frenchie (Tomer Capone) are imprisoned in what the show calls a “Freedom Camp” — the kind of euphemistically named nightmare facility that feels a little too on-the-nose for 2026. Meanwhile, Annie January / Starlight (Erin Moriarty) is on the outside, desperately trying to mount a resistance against a Supe force that now operates without consequence.

Showrunner Eric Kripke summed it up best: “If you give him truly unfettered power with all his insecurities and traumas, this is a version of what he would do.” Season 5 is the show finally letting Homelander fully off the leash — and the results are as terrifying as they are darkly compelling.

The Cast: Old Faces and a Supernatural Reunion

The core ensemble is back in full force — Karl Urban as the foul-mouthed Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Antony Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir, and Colby Minifie, Susan Heyward, and Valorie Curry all returning.

But the big story for Season 5 is the Supernatural reunion. Showrunner Eric Kripke — who created Supernatural before taking The Boys to Amazon — brought in two of his Winchester brothers: Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins both join the final season. Genre fans absolutely lost it when this was confirmed, and neither role disappoints. Daveed Diggs also joins the cast in a significant new role.

And in what may be the most chaotic casting decision in the show’s history, Seth Rogen has a guest appearance — revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2025 and exactly as deranged as you’d expect.

Why Season 5 Feels Different

There’s a certain freedom that comes with a show knowing it’s the end. The Boys Season 5 doesn’t feel like it’s setting things up for future seasons or protecting characters for franchise purposes. Anyone can go. Any line can be crossed. And the show is absolutely aware of that.

Billy Butcher in The Boys Season 5

The title of the series finale — “Blood and Bone” — isn’t an accident. Sharp-eyed fans will remember that Homelander mentioned the phrase during his conversation with Billy Butcher in Season 3, alluding to the one-on-one death match they agreed to. After seasons of build-up, that final confrontation is clearly coming.

At a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes through five episodes, critics agree: this is the season the show needed to deliver, and so far it’s delivering.

Is The Boys Worth Watching in 2026?

Short answer: yes, and not just because it’s ending. The Boys has always been more than a superhero satire — it’s a show about power, accountability, media manipulation, and what happens when the people supposed to protect you are the most dangerous ones in the room. In 2026, that premise hits harder than ever.

If you’ve never watched the show, all four previous seasons are on Prime Video right now. Binge them before the finale drops on May 20th — because trust us, you do not want Season 5 spoiled for you. This is one ending that’s clearly been planned from the beginning, and every beat so far has earned it.

The Bottom Line

With three episodes left and the Butcher-vs-Homelander showdown clearly on the horizon, The Boys Season 5 is shaping up to be one of the most satisfying endings a prestige TV show has ever pulled off. The cast is on fire, the writing is as sharp and vicious as ever, and Antony Starr continues to give one of the most terrifying performances in television history.

New episodes drop every Tuesday on Prime Video. Episode 6, “Though the Heavens Fall,” arrives May 6, 2026. Set your reminders.
