What’s in each Star Trek Secret Lair drop?

New Worlds (10 lands)

New Worlds: Island. Image: Wizards of the Coast

Two each of Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain and Forest, painted as alien worlds, from a crystal city to a pink and teal jungle. It’s the pick if you want lands that make a Star Trek deck feel like Star Trek.

Beam Me Up (4 reversible cards)

Four transporter cards with art on both sides: Eerie Interlude as “Beam Us Up,” Momentary Blink, Essence Flux as “Materialize” and Conjurer’s Closet as “The Transporter.” They’re a natural fit for blink decks, but the four reprints only add up to about $11, led by Eerie Interlude at about $7.

tlhIngan maH (5 reversible cards)

The most unusual drop: every card has a Klingon-language side and an English side. You get Demand Answers, Relentless Assault, Seething Song, War’s Toll and Warstorm Surge, a red set built around attacking. War’s Toll is the valuable one at about $11.

KHAAAAAAAAN (6 cards)

A drop themed around Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan: Wrath of the Skies as “Best Served Cold,” Commandeer, Illusionist’s Gambit as “Reliant’s Betrayal,” Buried Alive, Genesis Wave and Fracture. It has the most cards of any drop but the lowest reprint value, about $9.

Lower Decks (5 cards)

Secret Lair x Star Trek Lower Decks Tendi, Exploring the Future, the Thrasios reprint

The animated crew as legendary cards: Inti as “Mariner, Breaching Protocol,” Kambal as “Boimler, Citing Protocol,” Silas Renn as “Rutherford, Rebuilding the Past,” Thrasios as “Tendi, Exploring the Future,” and Weatherlight as the “U.S.S. Cerritos, California-Class.” Thrasios alone is about $18, Kambal about $7, and the five reprints add up to about $30, the most of any drop.

Which Star Trek Secret Lair drop should you buy?

  • Best value: Lower Decks. Its reprints already cover the $29.99 price, and Thrasios is a popular Commander partner.
  • Best for Klingon fans: tlhIngan maH. No other drop has a Klingon-language side.
  • Best for blink decks: Beam Me Up. Buy it for the art and the theme, not the reprint value.
  • Best for collectors: New Worlds. Ten alien-world lands fit in any deck.
  • Skip it for value: KHAAAAAAAAN. It’s a fun one if you love The Wrath of Khan, but its six reprints add up to about $9.

How do you get the Transporter Boondoggle promo?

Wizards adds one foil Return of the Wildspeaker, renamed “Transporter Boondoggle,” for every $199.99 you spend, while supplies last. Watch the math: all five revealed drops in foil come to $199.95, four cents short. Add the sixth drop when it’s revealed, or one more item, to get there.

Should you buy the Superdrop or the Star Trek set?

They’re different buys. A Secret Lair drop is a fixed list of cards, so you know exactly what you get. The MTG Star Trek set (out November 13) is packs, with chase cards you may or may not pull. If you want specific cards, Secret Lair and singles are the safer buy. Our Star Trek chase cards and Collector Booster guides have this week’s prices.
