Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a good fighting game, not just a good Avatar game. Critics give it 80 on PC and 77 on PS5 at Metacritic, and IGN scored it 8 out of 10. For $29.99 you get 12 fighters with hand-drawn bending moves on PS5, Xbox, Switch and PC. The main knocks are a thin story mode and a small roster, which the Year 1 Pass (starting with Iroh) is meant to fix.
If Friday’s Seven Havens finale leaves you wanting more Avatar, this is the cheapest way to keep bending. We haven’t played it ourselves, so this page is the critics’ consensus plus the official roster, DLC and price details, checked October 28, 2026.

Who is on the Avatar Legends roster?
Ten fighters are open from the start, and two more unlock as you play. The cast pulls from The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra and the era of Avatar Kyoshi.
| Fighter | From |
|---|---|
| Aang | The Last Airbender |
| Katara | The Last Airbender |
| Sokka | The Last Airbender |
| Toph Beifong | The Last Airbender |
| Zuko | The Last Airbender |
| Azula | The Last Airbender |
| Ozai | The Last Airbender |
| Kyoshi | Past Avatar |
| Korra | The Legend of Korra |
| Zaheer | The Legend of Korra |
| Avatar State Aang | Unlockable |
| Nightmare Korra | Unlockable |
Each fighter also brings three supports, and they change how that character plays. For Aang, Monk Gyatso boosts his air scooter and Momo gives him more control on his glider.

Year 1 Pass: Iroh, Ty Lee, Lin, Bolin and a fan vote
Five more fighters arrive over the first year. Iroh comes first, followed by Ty Lee, Lin Beifong and Bolin. The fifth slot goes to a fan vote between King Bumi, Tenzin, Kuvira, Amon and Asami.
Only pre-order owners could vote, and we haven’t seen a winner announced. We also couldn’t find official release dates for the pass fighters as of October 28, so check the in-game store before you pay for it.
There’s a free fighter too. Tagah, the airbender Dave Bautista voices in the new Avatar Aang movie, is coming to everyone at no cost. Here’s what critics thought of that movie.
What’s new in Patch 3.0?
The October 7 update added Open Lobbies for up to 16 players, with spectating. It also reworked Ozai.
What did critics score Avatar Legends?
Good to great, with no outright pans. Metacritic has it at 80 on PC (13 reviews) and 77 on PS5 (27 reviews: 20 positive, 7 mixed, none negative). OpenCritic shows 61% of critics recommending it.
| Outlet | Score (Metacritic scale) |
|---|---|
| TheGamer | 90 |
| GamingBolt | 90 |
| Gaming Nexus | 90 |
| IGN | 80 |
| Metacritic average (PC) | 80 |
| Metacritic average (PS5) | 77 |
Players are split. PlayStation Store buyers rate it 4.27 out of 5 from 1,372 ratings, while the Metacritic user score sits at 5.5.
What reviewers loved
- It looks like the show. The 2D animation is hand-drawn to match the series, and reviewers single it out.
- Every fighter plays differently. Critics praised the combos and how distinct the 12 characters feel.
- It’s fun. IGN’s Mitchell Saltzman called it “one of the most fun fighting games I’ve ever played.”
- The price. $29.99 is about half the $59.99 to $69.99 launch prices of Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8.
The catch: what reviewers didn’t like
- Story mode is thin. The 27-chapter story follows Aang, Korra and Kyoshi as they investigate a rift from Harmonic Convergence, and it’s the weakest part in most reviews.
- Missing basics. Reviewers flagged missing features, like no way to adjust AI difficulty.
- Twelve fighters is a small cast. Fan favorites like Iroh are paid DLC.
Which edition should you buy?
| Edition | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $29.99 | 12 fighters and all modes |
| Digital Deluxe | $49.99 | Game, Year 1 Pass, soundtrack, artbook |
| Deluxe Upgrade | $19.99 | The Deluxe extras for Standard owners |
Our pick: start with Standard. Standard plus the upgrade later comes to $49.98, a penny less than Deluxe, so there’s no penalty for waiting until Iroh actually lands.

Should you buy Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game?
- Buy it if you love the shows and want a fighter to play with friends, on the couch or online. At $29.99, it’s an easy gamble.
- Wait for Iroh if roster size matters most. The pass plus free Tagah takes the cast to 18.
- Skip it if you want a long single-player story. Critics agree the campaign is the weak spot.
