Short answer: For most people, the best MTG Star Trek buy is the Play Booster Display: 30 packs for about $132 on TCGplayer, or $4.39 a pack, far below its $209.70 MSRP. If you want a shot at the signed headliner cards without paying about $546 for a Collector Booster box, get Draft Night (about $100), which has 12 Play Boosters and one Collector Booster. Commander players should buy the decks near their $74.99 MSRP, but in North America they arrive after the November 13 release. Skip single Collector Boosters, the Beam Me Up Bundle and the Collector’s Edition decks at today’s prices.

The Play Booster MSRP is $6.99 a pack and the Collector’s Edition Commander decks are $159.99 each. Single Play Boosters are selling for about $15 right now, more than double MSRP, so buy them in a display or a Bundle instead.
Is the Star Trek Play Booster Display worth it?
Yes. At about $132 you pay $4.39 a pack, well under the $6.99 MSRP, and that’s the cheapest way to open Star Trek. Every 14-card Play Booster has at least one rare or mythic, and about 1 in 25 has a stardates card, a Star Trek reskin of a classic Magic card like Khan, Engineered Evil (a Sheoldred, the Apocalypse reprint). Our Star Trek pull rates guide has the full pack breakdown.
Some of the set’s best regular rares and mythics are already selling for real money. These are early presale prices with only one or two sales each, so expect them to move:
- Death Is Irrelevant (mythic) gives your artifact creatures indestructible and assimilates a creature from any graveyard at the end of each of your turns. One sale so far, at about $70.
- Georgiou, Terran Emperor (mythic) stops you losing at 0 life and draws you a card every turn for 3 life. One sale so far, at about $50.
- Mirror Universe Intrusion (rare) copies an opponent’s creature, or all of them if kicked. About $15.
What’s the best way to get a Star Trek Collector Booster?
Collector Boosters are the only place to find the seven signed headliner cards (about 250 copies each), the foil stardates cards and the surge foil LCARS shock lands. You have four ways to get one:
- Draft Night (about $100): the best deal. Its 12 Play Boosters are worth about $53 at display prices and the Collector Booster about $63, so you get roughly $116 of product for $100.
- A single Collector Booster (about $63): $25 over its $37.99 MSRP for one pack.
- Beam Me Up Bundle (about $136): $36 over MSRP for 8 Play Boosters, a Collector Booster and 2 promo cards. Draft Night gives you more packs for less.
- Collector Booster Display (about $546): 12 packs at about $45.50 each. Fine near its $455.88 MSRP if you want the Collector-only cards; otherwise wait. Our Collector Booster worth-it guide does the math.
Which Star Trek Commander deck should you buy?
All four decks sell close to their $74.99 MSRP: Klingon Fury about $69, Federation Fleet about $71, We Are the Borg about $75 and Landing Party about $76. The four-deck case sells for about $275, or about $69 a deck.
Two things to know first. In North America, Wizards says the Commander decks will arrive after the November 13 release, so a preorder may ship late (see Star Trek delays by region). And the Collector’s Edition decks sell for about $224 to $290 against a $159.99 MSRP, so skip them unless you want the foils. Our Star Trek Commander decks guide explains what each deck does.
What to skip
- Single Play Boosters at about $15. The display price works out to $4.39 a pack.
- Single Collector Boosters at about $63. Draft Night includes one plus 12 Play Boosters for $100.
- The Beam Me Up Bundle above MSRP. At $136 it costs more than Draft Night with fewer packs.
- Collector’s Edition Commander decks at $224 or more. That’s $64 to $130 over MSRP for foil versions of the same decks.
- Chasing one specific card in packs. Prices settle a few weeks after release. Track them on our Star Trek chase cards page and buy the single.
When can you buy MTG Star Trek?
