The best way to watch Avatar is The Last Airbender first, then the Avatar Aang movie, then The Legend of Korra, then Seven Havens. That’s the story’s own timeline, and it never spoils anything. Each one jumps forward in time: the Aang movie is set 13 years after the war, Korra picks up 70 years after Aang’s show, and Seven Havens is set 225 years after Korra. All four stream on Paramount+, and the whole run takes about 50 hours.
Updated November 1, 2026 · Includes Seven Havens Book 1 and the new Avatar Kuruk series

Avatar watch order at a glance
| # | Title | Length | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008) | 61 episodes | Paramount+, Netflix |
| 2 | Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender (2026 movie) | 99 minutes | Paramount+; Blu-ray Nov 3 |
| 3 | The Legend of Korra (2012-2014) | 52 episodes | Paramount+ |
| 4 | Avatar: Seven Havens (2026-) | 13 episodes so far | Paramount+ |
Prefer release order? Just swap 2 and 3. The Aang movie came out in 2026, after Korra, but it spoils nothing from Korra, and watching it right after the original show keeps Aang’s story in one piece.
1. Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008)
Start here. It’s three seasons, called Books (Water, Earth and Fire), with 61 episodes of about 23 minutes each. A 12-year-old Aang wakes up after 100 years frozen in ice and has to master all four elements to end the Fire Nation’s war. Everything else in Avatar builds on it, and it’s the most loved of the bunch. It streams on Paramount+ and Netflix.
2. Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender (2026)
The 99-minute movie jumps 13 years past the war to a grown-up Aang, Katara, Sokka and Toph. Critics gave it 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s on Paramount+, and the Blu-ray and DVD come out Tuesday, November 3. Our Avatar Aang movie guide has the scores, cast and disc details.
3. The Legend of Korra (2012-2014)
Seventy years after Aang’s show, Korra is the next Avatar, and the world has moved on to cities, cars and pro-bending. It runs four Books and 52 episodes. Book 2 also holds the deepest lore in the whole franchise: the two-part episode Beginnings (episodes 7 and 8) shows Avatar Wan, the very first Avatar. Korra left Netflix in April 2025, so Paramount+ is the only place to stream it.
4. Avatar: Seven Havens (2026-)
The newest show is set 225 years after Korra. A cataclysm has wrecked the world, and people now see the Avatar as the cause. Pavi, an Earthbender, finds out she’s the next Avatar after Korra, and she and her twin sister Nisha have to uncover where they came from. Book 1 (13 episodes) finished on October 30, 2026, and Book 2 is fully written but has no date yet. See our Seven Havens episode guide and the Book 1 ending explained.
The full Avatar timeline, from the first Avatar to Pavi
The shows are only part of the story. The novels, comics and one upcoming show fill in the other Avatars. Here’s everything in the order it happens:
| Avatar | Where to find the story |
|---|---|
| Wan, the first Avatar (10,000 years before Korra) | The Legend of Korra, Book 2, episodes 7 and 8 (Beginnings) |
| Yangchen (Air) | Novels: The Dawn of Yangchen, The Legacy of Yangchen |
| Kuruk (Water) | Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, a new show ordered in October 2026 (no date yet) |
| Kyoshi (Earth) | Novels: The Rise of Kyoshi, The Shadow of Kyoshi |
| Roku (Fire) | Novels: The Reckoning of Roku, The Awakening of Roku; also The Last Airbender, Book 3, episode 6 (The Avatar and the Fire Lord) |
| Aang (Air) | The Last Airbender, then the comics, then the Avatar Aang movie |
| Korra (Water) | The Legend of Korra, then the comics Turf Wars and Ruins of the Empire |
| Pavi (Earth) | Avatar: Seven Havens |
The Avatar cycle always goes Air, Water, Earth, Fire, which is why an Earthbender (Pavi) comes after a Waterbender (Korra).
Where do the Avatar comics fit?

Most of the Dark Horse comics pick up right where The Last Airbender ends, and they were written with the show’s creators. If you want more of Team Avatar before the Aang movie, read the main six in this order:
- The Promise
- The Search (what happened to Zuko’s mother)
- The Rift
- Smoke and Shadow
- North and South
- Imbalance
For Korra, read Turf Wars and then Ruins of the Empire after the show’s finale. Dark Horse also keeps adding stand-alone books, like Jet: Rebels and Rhinos and The Kyoshi Warriors (out November 10). Our what to watch, read and play after Seven Havens guide covers the newest ones.
What about Netflix’s live-action Avatar?
Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender is a separate retelling of Aang’s story, not part of the cartoon timeline. Season 1 came out in 2024, Season 2 arrived on June 25, 2026 with seven episodes, and Season 3 is expected in 2027. Watch it whenever you like, before or after the cartoon. The same goes for M. Night Shyamalan’s 2010 movie The Last Airbender, which critics panned and most fans skip entirely.
How long does it take to watch all of Avatar?
| Show or movie | About |
|---|---|
| The Last Airbender | 23 hours |
| Avatar Aang movie | 1 hour 39 minutes |
| The Legend of Korra | 20 hours |
| Seven Havens, Book 1 | 5 to 6 hours |
| Total | About 50 hours |
At two episodes a night, that’s roughly two months. At a full season a weekend, you can finish before Seven Havens Book 2 has a date.
Avatar watch order FAQ
Do I need to watch The Last Airbender before Korra?
Yes. Korra works on its own, but it leans on Aang’s story constantly, from his kids to his old friends, and it spoils how The Last Airbender ends.
Do I need to watch Korra before Seven Havens?
It helps but isn’t required. Seven Havens has all-new characters, but its open spirit portals and the Vaatu theories fans had all season come straight from Korra.
Is the Avatar Aang movie canon?
Yes. It was made by Avatar Studios, the team behind Seven Havens, with original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko producing. It fits between The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
Where can I watch every Avatar show in one place?
Paramount+ has The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, the Avatar Aang movie and Seven Havens. Netflix has The Last Airbender and its own live-action series.
