Disclosure: FanRoll sent us a Fizban’s Fortune mystery box, a gold Dragon Scale metal dice set and its 2026 Holiday Advent Dice Calendar for free to review. We’re also a FanRoll affiliate, so we earn a commission if you buy through our links or use our code. FanRoll didn’t see this review before it went live and had no say in our score. Here’s how we score.

Our verdict: FanRoll’s dice have great weight, roll nicely and feel premium for what they cost. Opening them is half the fun: the Fizban’s Fortune chest is a little treasure chest you open to find out which dragon d20 you got, and ours held the rarest one. For dice fans, this is about as good as the experience gets.

Who it’s for: D&D players who collect dice, and anyone shopping for a dice gift between $25 and $60.

FanRoll is a dice maker in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and its range includes licensed Dungeons & Dragons dice. It sent us three things: the Fizban’s Fortune mystery box ($24.99), the Dragon Scale Metal Dice Set in gold ($49.99) and the Holiday Advent Dice Calendar ($59.99). Our reader code JEFFBENSON10 takes 10% off. Prices checked November 6, 2026 on fanrolldice.com.

Fizban’s Fortune: what’s inside the mystery chest?

Fizban’s Fortune is a blind box based on Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons, the D&D sourcebook about dragons. Each box holds one oversized d20, 25 mm across, themed to a single dragon from the book. You don’t know which one you’ll get until you open it.

There are 34 dice to collect across six rarities: 5 Common, 10 Uncommon, 8 Rare, 5 Legendary, 5 Epic and 1 Mythic. They come in solid metal, hollow metal, liquid core and gemstone. The five Epic dice are gemstones (amethyst, crystal, sapphire, emerald and topaz), and the only Mythic die is a Crystal Prism d20. We didn’t see pull odds on FanRoll’s rarity page.

Opening the chest

This is the part we liked most. The lid opens like a real treasure chest, the d20 sits on a card printed with fiery dragon art, and a QR code inside the lid takes you to the full collection, so you can see which dragon you got and how rare it is. It feels like a small event, which is exactly what you want from a mystery box.

And we got lucky. Our chest held the Crystal Prism d20, the only Mythic die in the series and 1 of 34 designs. It’s going straight into my main dice set.

One tip from a buyer review on FanRoll’s site: the metal d20s are heavy enough to chip a glass table, so roll them in a dice tray.

Dragon Scale Metal Dice Set: Gold

This is a seven-piece set: d4, d6, d8, d10, d%, d12 and d20. Each die is solid zinc alloy wrapped in a raised dragon-scale pattern, with the numbers etched between the scales. FanRoll calls it the first in a series for D&D’s metallic dragons. Like the Fizban’s Fortune d20s, these are metal, so a dice tray is a good idea.

In hand, the set has great weight and rolls nicely, which gives it a premium feel. The scale texture makes it look like something out of a dragon’s hoard, too.

Holiday Advent Dice Calendar 2026

FanRoll’s 2026 advent calendar has 25 numbered doors, one for each day from December 1 to Christmas. This year’s theme is polar bears and Santa. FanRoll says the doors hide red and green mini dice, holiday metal dice and a few new surprises.

If you want it for this December, order before December 1. FanRoll ships in-stock orders within 3 business days, and at $59.99 the calendar qualifies for free US shipping on its own.

Day 1 was a lovely set of red-and-green swirl dice with gold numbers, a strong start to the month. The calendar also comes with a matching drawstring dice bag, printed with polar bears and Santa’s sack, so you have somewhere to keep the dice as you collect them. If the Santa theme isn’t for you, FanRoll still sells last year’s Elves calendar for the same $59.99.

Is FanRoll worth the price?

Yes. All three feel more premium than their prices suggest, and the packaging makes them feel like gifts before you even open them. The size helps too: at 25 mm, these d20s are bigger than a standard one of about 20 mm.

With JEFFBENSON10, the Fizban’s Fortune chest came to $22.50 in our test cart on November 6. Free US shipping starts at $50, so the advent calendar ships free on its own, but the gold set is one cent short. Add a Fizban’s Fortune and you’re well over.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it?

Buy it if:

  • You collect dice and like the surprise of a blind box.
  • You need a D&D gift under $25 (Fizban’s Fortune) or a December countdown for a dice fan (the calendar).
  • You want metal dice that stand out on the table.

Skip it if:

  • You want to pick your exact die. Fizban’s Fortune is random.
  • You roll on glass or a nice wood table and don’t own a dice tray.
  • You only need a cheap starter set for a brand-new player.
