Wizards of the Coast has done crossovers before — The Walking Dead, Warhammer 40,000, Fallout, Doctor Who — but nothing quite as massive as what is coming on June 26, 2026. Magic: The Gathering — Marvel Super Heroes is the full Marvel collaboration, a Standard-legal set featuring Wolverine, Iron Man, Black Panther, Thor, Scarlet Witch, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, and dozens more iconic characters from across the Marvel universe. This is not a Secret Lair drop or a Commander supplement. This is a full booster set releasing straight into Standard — and it is one of the biggest product launches Wizards has ever put together.

Release Date and Prerelease

Prerelease events: June 19–25, 2026 at local game stores worldwide
Official release: June 26, 2026
Format legality: Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy (as with all Standard sets)

The prerelease period gives players a full week to crack packs at their local game store before the set goes on sale at retail. If you want the best experience opening Marvel cards for the first time, prereleases are the way to go — the community energy at these events is always exceptional for high-hype sets.

Confirmed Marvel Characters

Wizards has confirmed a broad cross-section of the Marvel universe will appear in the set. Confirmed characters include:

  • Iron Man — Almost certainly a mythic rare or special treatment card given his prominence in Marvel marketing
  • Wolverine — The X-Men’s most iconic member, first teased in Secret Lair previews
  • Black Panther — Confirmed via official WPN promotional materials
  • Thor — The Avengers’ god of thunder fits perfectly into Red or White
  • Scarlet Witch — Multiverse-warping abilities practically write themselves as MTG card text
  • She-Hulk — The green powerhouse of the legal world arrives in Green or White
  • Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) — The beloved Inhuman stretching her way into the set
  • Wasp — Confirmed in official previews, likely a small evasive flier payoff
  • Spider-Man — Already debuted in the standalone Spider-Man MTG set (September 2025), likely returning with new treatments

Product Lineup — The Biggest Ever

Wizards described Marvel Super Heroes as featuring “one of the biggest product lineups we have ever released.” Confirmed formats include:

  • Play Boosters — The standard booster for draft and collection, replacing the old Draft and Set booster split
  • Collector Boosters — Premium packs packed with foils, special treatments, and the rarest Marvel card variants
  • Jumpstart Boosters — Grab-and-play themed packs for casual players and newcomers
  • Beginner Box — An ideal entry point for Marvel fans who have never played MTG before
  • Four Commander Decks — Each themed around a Marvel faction or team, plus four Collector’s Edition versions
  • Scene Boxes — Premium display sets featuring connected card art depicting iconic Marvel moments
  • Welcome Decks — Five free 30-card half-decks featuring different Marvel heroes, combinable into a 60-card deck

What This Means for Standard

Marvel Super Heroes entering Standard is the most significant format shake-up in years. The set will be legal in Standard from release through 2028 rotation, meaning these cards will define competitive metagames for two full years. Based on the characters confirmed, expect a heavy emphasis on combat — Avengers-style aggressive strategies, X-Men midrange packages, and potentially powerful combo pieces built around iconic Marvel story moments.

The Infinity Stones, introduced in the Spider-Man MTG set, are expected to continue in Marvel Super Heroes, creating a mechanical throughline for the Marvel Cinematic Universe cards. If the Spider-Man set’s Stone cycle is any indication, assembling the full Infinity Gauntlet in a Commander deck will be a legitimate and deeply satisfying win condition.

Should You Be Excited?

Yes — with reasonable expectations. MTG crossover sets have been hit-or-miss for the competitive community but reliably beloved by collectors and casual players. A Marvel set entering Standard is unprecedented, and the combination of Marvel’s cultural reach and Magic’s gameplay depth could be genuinely special if Wizards gets the card design right.

For collectors, the Collector Booster treatments of Marvel characters are going to be some of the most sought-after MTG cards ever printed. Expect secondary market prices on the best cards to be significant at launch. Pre-order singles early if there are specific characters you want.
