It goes on sale November 2, 2026, only at MagicSecretLair.com. Is Marvel’s History of Heroes a Commander deck?

No. It’s 30 loose cards, not a 100-card deck, and there’s no face commander. But it’s clearly made for Commander players: Fierce Guardianship, Opposition Agent, Heroic Intervention, Tainted Pact and Fighter Class are all cards you’ll see across the table in Commander games.

If you want a ready-to-play Marvel Commander deck, the four Marvel Super Heroes Commander decks (Avengers Assemble, Wakanda Forever, The Fantastic Four and Doom Prevails) sell for about $36 to $62 each on TCGplayer. There’s no Secret Lair Marvel Commander deck as of October 18.

Which Marvel’s History of Heroes cards are worth the most?

Five cards carry about 70% of the kit’s reprint value. Here are the six most valuable, by the price of each card’s cheapest existing copy:

Fierce Guardianship with Namor art from Marvel's History of Heroes
Fierce Guardianship · about $61
Biorhythm with the Thing and the Fantastic Four art from Marvel's History of Heroes
Biorhythm · about $34
Tainted Pact with Doctor Doom art by Bill Sienkiewicz from Marvel's History of Heroes
Tainted Pact · about $30
Timber Protector with Groot art from Marvel's History of Heroes
Timber Protector · about $23
Opposition Agent with Winter Soldier art from Marvel's History of Heroes
Opposition Agent · about $20
Devastation with Silver Surfer and Galactus art from Marvel's History of Heroes
Devastation · about $18
  1. Fierce Guardianship (Namor): about $61. It counters a noncreature spell for free whenever you control your commander, so it’s in nearly every blue Commander deck. This is the card that makes the kit’s math work.
  2. Biorhythm (the Thing): about $34. Every player’s life total becomes the number of creatures they control, which can end a game on the spot in a creature deck. The art shows the Fantastic Four getting hit by cosmic rays.
  3. Tainted Pact (Doctor Doom): about $30. A combo piece for decks with no duplicate cards. Bill Sienkiewicz painted Doom’s mask for this one, and it’s a mythic in the kit.
  4. Timber Protector (Groot): about $23. Your other Treefolk and your Forests become indestructible. It has only been printed a handful of times, which keeps the price up.
  5. Opposition Agent (Winter Soldier): about $20. You control opponents while they search their libraries and get to play what they find. It’s a staple in competitive Commander.
  6. Devastation (Silver Surfer): about $18. Destroys all creatures and lands, shown as the coming of Galactus. It hasn’t been reprinted since Starter 1999.

Molten Duplication ($13.50) and Heroic Intervention ($9.43) come next. The other 20 reprints are under $9 each, and 15 of those are under $2.

What are the two new cards?

Doctor Strange, Master of Magic, a new Marvel: Darkhold Destiny card in Marvel's History of Heroes
Doctor Strange, Master of Magic · new card
Beta Ray Bill, a new Marvel: Darkhold Destiny card in Marvel's History of Heroes
Beta Ray Bill · new card

Two cards in the kit are brand new. Both are uncommons from Marvel: Darkhold Destiny, released early here, and they become legal in all formats when Darkhold Destiny prerelease events start on April 2, 2027.

  • Doctor Strange, Master of Magic (four mana, white and blue): a 2/3 with flying, vigilance and prowess. Tap him to draw a card if you’ve cast a noncreature spell this turn. Art by Princess Hidir.
  • Beta Ray Bill (three mana, green/white hybrid): a 2/3 with Valiant. The first time each turn you target him, he gets a +1/+1 counter, and so can one God you control. Art by Jonathan Wayshak.

Neither has a real price yet, so we left them out of the value math.

Is Marvel’s History of Heroes worth $199.99?

What you’re comparingPrice
The kit at MagicSecretLair.com$199.99
Cheapest copies of all 28 reprintsabout $241
Just the top 5 cards as singlesabout $168
The 2 new cardsno price yet
  • For Marvel and Secret Lair collectors, yes. You get 30 new Marvel artworks for less than the cheapest versions of the cards would cost, plus a shot at foils and surge foils.
  • For players who need most of these cards, also yes. If you’d buy Fierce Guardianship, Biorhythm, Tainted Pact and Opposition Agent anyway, the kit gives you all of them plus 26 more cards for about $56 more.
  • If you only need one or two cards, no. A Fierce Guardianship is about $61 on its own, so buy the singles you need.

What to skip

  • Early resale listings. The kit isn’t on sale until November 2, and TCGplayer has no listing for it yet. Buy from MagicSecretLair.com at $199.99.
  • Counting the new cards as value. Doctor Strange and Beta Ray Bill are uncommons in Darkhold Destiny, so regular copies will be easy to get next April.
  • Buying it as a Commander deck. It won’t give you a playable deck out of the box. Get a Marvel Super Heroes precon for that.
