Older sets cost more because they’re out of print, not because their packs are better value. Market prices move fast on new sets, so check the live price before you buy.

Where should a new player start?

Buy a starter deck first. Each one is a ready-to-play deck built around a Leader card. The newest four came out July 31, 2026: Red Monkey.D.Luffy (about $29), Blue Kuzan (about $19), Red/Black Sabo (about $16) and Yellow Eustass “Captain” Kid (about $17). Pick the character you like best.

Then buy singles, not boxes. When you know what deck you want to build, buying the exact cards is much cheaper than opening packs and hoping.

Which set should you open?

  • For the lowest box price: OP-16 The Time of Battle (about $210) and OP-15 Adventure on Kami’s Island (about $255).
  • For the newest cards: OP-17 The World’s Strongest Warriors (about $304). Its top chase, the Rocks.D.Xebec Super Alternate Art, sells for about $6,100. Our OP-17 chase cards guide covers the rest.
  • Coming next: EB-05 One Piece Heroines Edition (October 30) and OP-18 The Dominance of God (November 20).

The gold Luffy SP is a special version of the OP-05 Gear 5 Luffy that turns up in OP-11 packs, which helps explain why OP-11 still costs about $560 a box. Prize and promo cards, like serial-numbered and championship cards, can sell for even more, but you can’t pull those from packs.
