Naruto Card Game: How to Play Bandai’s New TCG Before June 2027

Bandai has done this before. In 2022 it took One Piece, a manga everybody already loved, built a card game around it, and watched its first products turn into collector pieces. Four years later the One Piece Card Game is one of the biggest TCGs on the planet. Now it’s Naruto’s turn.

The Naruto Card Game launches worldwide in June 2027, the same month in every region, with three starter decks (Naruto, Sasuke and Gaara) and a first booster pack called Enter: Naruto Uzumaki! That’s the line every news site will repeat. The part I care about more: you can play it in February, four months early, and the only exclusive products Bandai has announced are sold at those early events.

One thing to clear up before we go further. If you’ve seen a Naruto card game on store shelves this year, that’s a different game: Mythos TCG: Naruto, from Zvezdar Toys, which reached US stores on August 29, 2026. Bandai also ran an older Naruto CCG from 2006 to 2013. The new Naruto Card Game is a fresh start, not a revival of either one.

How the game plays, going only by what Bandai has confirmed

Bandai has shown the shape of the game but not the full rulebook. Here’s what’s actually on the record:

  • Your Leader picks your color. Every deck is built around one Leader card, and your Characters have to match its color. If you’ve played One Piece, this part will feel like home.
  • A 51-card deck, plus six cards on the side. Next to the main deck you run 5 Chakra cards and 1 Summon card.
  • The Summon card is the gate. You rest it to bring a Character onto the field.
  • Chakra pays for Jutsu. You spend Chakra to fire off Ninjutsu and other Support cards, and Bandai’s own pitch is about flipping up face-down support cards to stop an attack.
  • EX Characters are the big finishers. These are powerful Characters you can only play once you meet certain conditions mid-game.
  • You win by taking the enemy Leader’s Life to zero.

Put the face-down cards together with Bandai’s tagline, “Read your rival,” and this sounds like a game about bluffing and reading your opponent. That fits Naruto better than another straight race to the bottom of a life total. Still missing: turn structure, how combat works, how much Chakra you get each turn, and the full list of colors. Bandai says the next big reveal is at Jump Festa in December, so that’s when I expect the real rulebook.

What the first cards tell us

Bandai has shown 12 cards so far, and three things jumped out at me.

The art comes in three styles: brand-new illustrations, cards built from actual manga panels, and anime stills. The manga-panel Naruto is the one I’d want in a binder. It looks like nothing else in the hobby right now.

The cast skews exactly how you’d guess. Half of the 12 reveals are Naruto or Sasuke. The other six are Orochimaru, Jiraiya, Itachi, Sakura, Tsunade and Boruto, so the Boruto era is in from day one. So far the frames come in blue, pink and green.

Every Character card shows three numbers: DMG, POW and HP. All 12 samples carry the exact same 3, 6 and 6, which tells me these are art previews, not balance spoilers. Don’t build a tier list off them.

What you can buy in June 2027

Launch day brings four products: three starter decks led by Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha and Gaara, and Booster Pack 01, Enter: Naruto Uzumaki!, with characters from both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. The starter decks are ready to play out of the box, and boosters are how you upgrade them.

Bandai hasn’t announced prices yet. For a rough idea, One Piece’s starter decks were $11.99 when that game launched in 2022, and One Piece booster packs now run $4.99 each. I wouldn’t be shocked if Naruto lands close to that, but wait for Bandai’s numbers.

The early stuff is where collectors should look

Here’s the history lesson. In the week before One Piece hit shelves, from September 30 to October 6, 2022, Bandai ran a Super Pre-Release event. To play, you had to buy a special edition of a starter deck: $11.99, with an exclusive Leader illustration and a gold first-edition stamp. That Straw Hat Crew deck sold for $2,100.68 on TCGplayer in August 2026. The regular edition of the same deck? About $56.

Naruto’s version of that moment is the Premier Demo Event:

  • Wave 1: February 5 to 19, 2027.
  • Wave 2: February 19 to March 5, 2027.
  • How to get in: sign up through the Bandai TCG+ app. Applications are planned to open in January 2027, and stores are picked through TCG+.
  • What you play: a Naruto demo deck or a Sasuke demo deck. You can’t take it home.

My take: the Chakra Set is the sneaky one. Bandai’s photo shows one Summon card and five Chakra cards, with art of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi and Gaara. That’s exactly the six-card side set every deck in this game uses. Anyone who sticks with the game can drop it into every deck they ever build, and that’s the kind of product people keep hunting for years later.

Two honest caveats. Bandai says each store will stock enough for every participant, and leftovers may go on sale to the public afterward, which is friendlier than One Piece’s launch. And on October 22 Bandai pulled the Chakra Set from the Orlando and London fests, so the demo events are now the only confirmed way to get it. I’m not telling you to treat sealed product like a stock. I am telling you that if you want either item, Wave 1 is your window, because the playmat isn’t sold in Wave 2.

Went to Gen Con? Your tutorial gift set came with a CP-001 Chakra Card (Gen Con 2026 Ver.). Keep it in a sleeve.

Will it be big?

I think it has the best shot of any new Bandai card game since One Piece. The Naruto manga has more than 250 million copies in circulation, the launch is worldwide on day one instead of Japan first, and Bandai is giving away a million demo decks before a single booster hits shelves. You don’t do that for a side project.

The risks are real too. Mythos TCG: Naruto got to stores first, shelf space is crowded with Riftbound, Lorcana and Bandai’s own games, and we still haven’t seen the rulebook. A great license doesn’t save a boring game. If Jump Festa shows a game that’s actually fun to play, this becomes the TCG launch of 2027.

What I’m watching next

  • December 2026, Jump Festa: the full rules, the color list and, with luck, prices.
  • January 2027: demo sign-ups in Bandai TCG+. Set a reminder.
  • Spring 2027: how the million free demo decks get handed out.

I’ll update this page as each piece lands.
