The best upgrades for the Final Fantasy VI Revival Trance Commander deck are Joshua, Phoenix’s Dominant, Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate, Karmic Guide, Squall and Faithless Looting, the cards EDHREC players add most often. All 10 picks below cost about $35 on TCGplayer, and nine of them cost about $21 combined. The first cards to cut are Ruin Grinder, Umaro and Angel of the Ruins, mostly because they’re too big for Terra to bring back.

How does the Revival Trance deck win?
Revival Trance is the Final Fantasy VI Commander deck, led by Terra, Herald of Hope (Mardu: red, white and black, 3 mana, a 3/3). Her Trance ability triggers at the beginning of combat on your turn: you mill two cards and Terra gains flying until end of turn. Whenever she deals combat damage to a player, you may pay {2} to return a creature card with power 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
So the plan is to fill your graveyard, fly over with Terra, and bring back a small creature every time she connects. The best upgrades either have power 3 or less and do something strong when they return, put creatures in your graveyard on purpose, or give you extra combats, because each combat triggers Trance again.
What are the best Revival Trance deck upgrades?
1. Joshua, Phoenix’s Dominant

What it does: A 3/4. When it enters, you discard up to two cards, then draw that many. For {3}{R}{W} and tapping it, it transforms into Phoenix, Warden of Fire, a 4/4 flying, lifelink Saga that deals 2 damage to each opponent twice, then returns creature cards with total mana value 6 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Why it fits Terra: It fills your graveyard when it enters, Terra can return it (power 3), and the Phoenix side is a second mass reanimation.
Price: about $1.22 (TCGplayer) · in 45% of EDHREC Revival Trance decks
2. Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate

What it does: First strike. Whenever Alesha attacks, she gets a +1/+1 counter. At your end step, if you attacked that turn, return a creature card with mana value up to Alesha’s power from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Why it fits Terra: A second reanimation engine that brings back the same small creatures Terra does, every turn you attack.
Price: about $2.34 (TCGplayer) · in 45% of EDHREC Revival Trance decks
3. Karmic Guide

What it does: A 2/2 flier with protection from black and echo. When it enters, you return a creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Why it fits Terra: Its power is 2, so Terra can return it, and it then returns any creature, with no power limit.
Price: about $0.35 (TCGplayer) · in 41% of EDHREC Revival Trance decks
4. Squall, SeeD Mercenary

What it does: Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, it gains double strike until end of turn. Whenever Squall deals combat damage to a player, you return a permanent card with mana value 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Why it fits Terra: If Terra attacks alone, she flies in with double strike and hits twice, so her reanimation triggers twice (paying {2} each time).
Price: about $1.19 (TCGplayer) · in 38% of EDHREC Revival Trance decks
5. Faithless Looting

What it does: Draw two cards, then discard two cards. Flashback {2}{R}.
Why it fits Terra: A cheap way to put the creatures you want into your graveyard, and you can cast it twice.
Price: about $0.38 (TCGplayer) · in 33% of EDHREC Revival Trance decks
6. Aurelia, the Warleader

What it does: A 3/4 with flying, vigilance and haste. The first time it attacks each turn, you untap all your creatures and get an extra combat phase.
Why it fits Terra: Trance triggers at the beginning of each combat on your turn, so an extra combat means another mill, another flying attack and another reanimation. Aurelia’s power is 3, so Terra can return her too.
Price: about $5.23 (TCGplayer) · in 32% of EDHREC Revival Trance decks
7. Buried Alive

What it does: Search your library for up to three creature cards and put them into your graveyard.
Why it fits Terra: You pick exactly which three creatures Terra and Alesha will bring back.
Price: about $2.55 (TCGplayer) · in 31% of EDHREC Revival Trance decks
8. Fear of Missing Out

What it does: A 2/3. When it enters, you discard a card, then draw a card. With delirium (four or more card types in your graveyard), the first time it attacks each turn, you untap a creature and get an extra combat phase.
Why it fits Terra: Terra’s milling helps turn on delirium, the extra combat triggers Trance again, and at power 2 Terra can return it.
Price: about $3.45 (TCGplayer) · in 27% of EDHREC Revival Trance decks
9. Summon: Knights of Round

What it does: An indestructible 3/3 Saga. Its first four chapters each create three 2/2 Knights. The fifth gives your other creatures +2/+2 and an indestructible counter. Then it’s sacrificed.
Why it fits Terra: After its last chapter it goes to your graveyard, and at power 3 Terra can return this 8-mana card for {2} to start making Knights again.
Price: about $14.29 (TCGplayer) · in 26% of EDHREC Revival Trance decks
10. Braids, Arisen Nightmare

What it does: At your end step, you may sacrifice a permanent. Each opponent then sacrifices a permanent that shares a type with it, or loses 2 life and you draw a card.
Why it fits Terra: Sacrifice creatures that Terra can bring back next turn. Braids has power 3, so she comes back too.
Price: about $4.12 (TCGplayer) · in 25% of EDHREC Revival Trance decks
How much does it cost to upgrade the Revival Trance deck?
All 10 cards cost about $35.12 at the TCGplayer printings above. Summon: Knights of Round ($14.29) is the big one. The other nine cost about $20.83 combined, and the two most-added cards, Joshua and Alesha, are about $3.56 together.
Which cards should you cut from the Revival Trance deck?
Most of the top cuts share one problem: their power is above 3, so Terra can’t return them.
- Ruin Grinder (cut from 80% of decks): a 6-mana 7/4, too big for Terra.
- Umaro, Raging Yeti (68%): 6 mana, a 6/6, and its combat effect is chosen at random.
- Angel of the Ruins (66%): 7 mana and power 5.
- Interceptor, Shadow’s Hound (65%): power 4.
- Combustible Gearhulk (65%): 6 mana and power 6.
- Setzer, Wandering Gambler (63%): its payoff needs Vehicles to hit players.
- Sepulchral Primordial (61%): 7 mana and power 5.
- Coin of Fate (59%)
- Strago and Relm (54%)
- Flayer of the Hatebound (54%): 6 mana, and at power 4 Terra can’t return it.
Is the Revival Trance deck worth buying now?
Yes. It’s the cheapest of the four Final Fantasy decks at about $30 on TCGplayer (October 25, 2026), and the full upgrade above adds about $35. It has 7,219 EDHREC decks, the fewest of the four, but Terra ranks among the top Mardu commanders (see our top 5 Mardu commanders). The Collector’s Edition is about $129, so only buy that one for the foils. For newer decks, see our best Commander precons of 2026.
