Magic: Play boxes drop, early Collector boxes hold

Five of the six 2026 MTG Play Booster Displays are cheaper than in their release week, from -10% (Reality Fracture) to -27% (The Hobbit, now $138). Secrets of Strixhaven is the only one up, at +2%.

Collector Booster Displays split by age. The three released before May (Lorwyn Eclipsed, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Secrets of Strixhaven) are all up 3-7%. The three released since June are still below their release week: Marvel Super Heroes -2%, Reality Fracture -12% and The Hobbit -18% ($831.91 to $683.76).

Lorcana: the older sets nearly doubled

Lorcana has both of the year’s big winners, but not at first. Winterspell and Wilds Unknown both sat near their lowest prices in their first weeks, then climbed: Wilds Unknown more than doubled within a month (peaking at $251.63 in early June), and Winterspell kept rising until mid-September ($268.13). The two newest Lorcana boxes are following the usual early dip: Attack of the Vine! is down 9% and Hyperia City is down 14% after just nine days, from $175.33 to $150.06.

Riftbound: only Unleashed is up

Unleashed is the only Riftbound display above its release-week price (+37%). Spiritforged is down 21%, partly because its release-week price was high: $195.52, against a low of $123 in May. Vendetta is down 5%. Radiance came out on October 23, so it’s too new to compare; we’ll add it in the next update. For which set is the best to open, see every Riftbound set ranked by value.

Pokémon and Star Wars: Unlimited: every box fell

All three 2026 Pokémon booster boxes in this list are cheaper than in their release week: Pitch Black -11%, Perfect Order -16% and Chaos Rising -27% ($251.15 to $183.25). The three Star Wars: Unlimited displays are down 12-22%.

One Piece: the steadiest prices

One Piece boxes moved the least. All five are within 8% of their release-week price, from -7% (Heroines Edition) to +8% (The Azure Sea’s Seven).

What this means if you’re buying a box

  • Opening packs? Release week was the most expensive time to buy 21 of these 30 boxes. Waiting a month or two saved 10-27% on most Play boxes, Pokémon boxes and Star Wars: Unlimited displays.
  • Keeping a box sealed? In 2026 the boxes that held value best were older Lorcana sets and early-year MTG Collector boxes. Past prices don’t guarantee future ones, so buy what you’d be happy to open.
  • Black Friday: our prices-to-beat list shows what counts as a real deal on these boxes.

What to skip

Paying release-week prices for a Play Booster Display you plan to keep sealed. Five of the six 2026 MTG Play boxes, and every Pokémon and Star Wars: Unlimited box here, cost less now than in release week.

How we calculated this

We pulled the TCGplayer market price history for every standard English booster box released between January 1 and October 25, 2026 in Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, One Piece, Disney Lorcana, Riftbound and Star Wars: Unlimited. “Release week” is the first market price on or after each box’s official TCGplayer release date. “Now” is the latest weekly price (October 19-25, 2026). Boxes released in the last three months use TCGplayer’s three-day price points; older ones use weekly points. Special sets without a standard booster box (like Pokémon Ascended Heroes) aren’t included. More on our process in our editorial policy. We’ll update this tracker every month.
