Short answer: MTG Star Trek prereleases run November 6 to 12, 2026 at local game stores, a week before the November 13 release (MTG Arena gets the set on November 10). Each Prerelease Pack has six Play Boosters, a traditional foil rare or mythic promo, a deck box and a spindown die. You open the packs and build a 40-card Sealed deck on the spot. Preregister with your store early, because popular sets fill up.

November 13 to January 28Magic Presents: To Boldly Go (foil Solemn Simulacrum promo)

What’s in a Star Trek Prerelease Pack?

MTG Star Trek Prerelease Pack box

  • 6 Star Trek Play Boosters
  • 1 traditional foil rare or mythic rare promo card from the set
  • 1 deck box
  • 1 spindown life counter

The store supplies basic lands. Entry prices are set by each store, so check when you preregister. If you can’t make an event, sealed Prerelease Packs were selling for about $69 on TCGplayer on October 14, which is usually more than a store’s entry fee, so attending is the better deal.

How does Sealed work at a prerelease?

You open all six packs and build a deck of at least 40 cards from what you opened, plus any number of basic lands. Then you play a few rounds against other players at the event.

  • Stick to two colors. A splash for a third color is fine if you have the fixing.
  • Run about 17 lands and 15 to 17 creatures.
  • Prioritize removal and your best rares, then fill in with creatures that fit your curve.

Which Star Trek mechanics matter in Sealed?

MechanicWhat it doesSealed tip
Assimilate (Borg)Put a creature card onto the battlefield under your control with a +1/+1 counter. It becomes a Borg artifact creature.Free extra bodies win long Sealed games. Value these highly.
FederationAbilities that scale with the number of non-Borg creature types you control.Mixing species (Vulcan, Klingon, Andorian and so on) makes these stronger.
Face a dilemmaYou face a dilemma when you choose modes for a spell or ability. Some cards reward it.The set has lots of modal cards, which are flexible picks in Sealed.
Beam me upCast an instant or sorcery from your graveyard by paying its cost and returning a creature you control to your hand.Returning a creature lets you replay its “enters” ability.
Station (Spacecraft)Tap creatures to put charge counters on a Spacecraft until it becomes a creature. Some ships also trigger every time they’re stationed. You need spare creatures to tap, so ships fit decks with plenty of them.
Strange new worldsAbilities that count your differently named lands. In Sealed you’ll mostly have basics, so expect smaller bonuses.

The set also has Sagas that retell famous Star Trek storylines, plus Explore as a returning mechanic.

What should you bring to a Star Trek prerelease?

  • Sleeves for your 40-card deck (the Prerelease Pack includes a deck box)
  • Dice or counters, since assimilate and station both use counters
  • A pen and paper or a phone app to track life (the pack includes a spindown die)
  • A binder or toploaders if you’re hoping to keep a big pull safe. See our best MTG binders guide.

What to buy after the prerelease

Play Boosters are $6.99 MSRP and Collector Boosters are $37.99. The seven Headliner Signed cards (about 250 copies each) only come in Collector Boosters, not Prerelease Packs. Our chase cards page tracks every one. If you’d rather play Commander, see our guide to the four Commander decks.

What to skip

  • Buying sealed Prerelease Packs online at about $69. Going to the event almost always costs less and includes the games.
  • Building three or four colors. Sealed rewards consistent mana.
  • Opening Collector Boosters to find signed cards. With about 250 copies of each, the odds are very low. Buy the single if you want it.
