1. Pantlaza, Sun-Favored

What it does: Whenever Pantlaza or another Dinosaur enters under your control, you may discover X, where X is that creature’s toughness, once each turn. Discover exiles cards from the top of your library until a nonland card with mana value X or less, which you cast for free or put in your hand.
How the deck plays: A Dinosaurs deck where every big Dinosaur casts another spell for free. Tough Dinosaurs dig deeper, so the deck snowballs fast. It’s the most-built Naya commander on EDHREC, this month and all time.
Build around:
- Regisaur Alpha ($1.54, in 82% of decks): gives your Dinosaurs haste and brings a 3/3 Dinosaur token with it
- Rhythm of the Wild ($4.38, in 78% of decks): your creatures can’t be countered and enter with haste or a +1/+1 counter
- Curious Altisaur ($0.41, in 75% of decks): a 2/5 Dinosaur that draws a card whenever a Dinosaur connects
Popularity and price: 4,583 EDHREC decks in the past month (37,656 total, the most of any Naya commander). Market price $6.19 (TCGplayer, Oct 24). Check today’s price on TCGplayer
2. Cloud, Ex-SOLDIER

What it does: Haste. When Cloud enters, attach an Equipment you control to him. Whenever he attacks, draw a card for each equipped attacking creature, then make two Treasures if his power is 7 or more.
How the deck plays: An Equipment deck. Suit up your creatures, attack, and draw a card for each equipped attacker. Big Equipment on Cloud also makes Treasure every attack.
Build around:
- Puresteel Paladin ($0.54, in 96% of decks): draws on every Equipment and makes equipping free
- Colossus Hammer ($0.58, in 90% of decks): +10/+10 for one mana; Cloud’s enter trigger or Puresteel Paladin skips its huge equip cost
- Sword of the Animist ($3.11, in 81% of decks): ramps you a land every attack
Popularity and price: 3,516 EDHREC decks in the past month (33,077 total). Market price $1.53 (TCGplayer, Oct 24). Check today’s price on TCGplayer
3. Toph, the First Metalbender

What it does: Your nontoken artifacts are also lands. At the beginning of your end step, earthbend 2: a land you control becomes a 0/0 creature with haste and two +1/+1 counters, and it comes back if it dies.
How the deck plays: Toph turns artifacts into lands, so every artifact triggers landfall and can be earthbent into a creature. It’s a lands deck and an artifacts deck at the same time.
Build around:
- Bumi, Unleashed ($3.62, in 69% of decks): earthbends 4 and gives your land creatures an extra combat
- Earthbender Ascension ($3.16, in 61% of decks): earthbends, ramps, and grows a creature on landfall
- Ichor Wellspring ($0.30, in 57% of decks): a cheap artifact, so a cheap land, that draws a card

How the deck plays: Cats and Dogs. Every Cat makes a Dog and every Dog makes a Cat, and then Rin and Seri turn the whole pet army into damage and life.
Build around:
- Regal Caracal ($0.38, in 87% of decks): pumps your Cats, gives them lifelink, and brings two more
- Feline Sovereign ($1.90, in 84% of decks): pumps your Cats and destroys an artifact or enchantment when they connect
- Pack Leader ($0.61, in 82% of decks): pumps your Dogs and protects them in combat

- Second Harvest ($3.47, in 50% of decks): copies every token you control at instant speed
- Peregrin Took ($0.41, in 41% of decks): an extra Food token every time you make tokens

Why play Naya?
Naya is the big-creatures color combination. Green ramps and brings the biggest bodies, red adds haste and damage, and white adds removal, tokens and protection. It’s weakest at drawing cards and answering spells, so the best Naya commanders build card draw into the attack itself, like Cloud, or skip card draw by casting spells for free, like Pantlaza.
The cheapest way in is Toph or Baylen. Both commanders cost under $1.25, and Toph’s three key cards add up to about $7.
Honorable mentions
- Gishath, Sun’s Avatar (1,984 decks in the past month, about $5.84): the original Dinosaur commander. An eight-mana 7/6 with vigilance, trample and haste that puts Dinosaurs from your library onto the battlefield every time it connects. It’s also in 82% of Pantlaza decks.
- Atla Palani, Nest Tender (1,807 decks, about $1.14): makes Egg tokens, and whenever an Egg dies you put the next creature from your library onto the battlefield. A fun “hatch random monsters” deck.
More three-color commander rankings: Jeskai, Bant, Esper, Mardu, Grixis, Abzan and Sultai.
