Short answer: Mystery Booster Commander Edition is a box of 24 twenty-card packs built for Commander Draft, mixing reprints from across Magic’s history with about 60 new-to-Magic cards, led by new commanders. You can’t buy it in stores. The first way to get one is Festival in a Box: Atlanta 2026, which goes on sale October 19 at MagicSecretLair.com for $249.99 (limit two). After that, it’s sold at major Magic events, starting with MagicCon: Atlanta on November 13 to 15. Buy it if you’ll run an eight-player Commander Draft; it’s a great night for a playgroup.

What’s in a Mystery Booster Commander Edition pack?

Each pack has 20 cards:

SlotWhat you get
15 cardsCommons or uncommons, three of each color
1 cardReprint wildcard of any rarity
1 cardRare or mythic rare reprinted commander
1 cardNew-to-Magic commander (traditional foil 4.75% of the time)
1 cardFuture Sight-frame card (common, uncommon, rare or mythic), or a rare foil acorn-stamp card
1 cardPlaytest card

Most reprints carry a small Planeswalker stamp in the corner. Wizards picked them for Commander Draft, which is how you get Clown Car and Diabolic Tutor in the same box, plus big names like Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines.

What’s new in Mystery Booster Commander Edition?

  • About 60 new-to-Magic cards, mostly commanders, including a cycle of planeswalkers that can be your commander.
  • Rulebreaker, a new ability word on eight cards designed with the Commander Format Panel. Rulebreaker commanders let you bend deckbuilding rules, like playing certain cards outside your color identity.
  • Tsagan, Raider Warlord, a double-striking dinosaur from MTG Arena’s Alchemy, now in paper and legal in Commander.
  • Future Sight-frame cards, the “future” card frame from 2007.
  • 10 acorn-stamped Alchemy cards in traditional foil, with digital-only mechanics. These aren’t legal in Constructed.
  • 121 playtest cards, the same set from Mystery Booster 2, also not legal in Constructed.

How do you get Mystery Booster Commander Edition?

It’s a convention exclusive, so there are only two routes:

  • Festival in a Box: Atlanta 2026, on sale October 19 at MagicSecretLair.com for $249.99, limit two per customer.
  • MagicCon events, starting with Atlanta (November 13 to 15), then Detroit (February 26 to 28, 2027), Tokyo (May 14 to 16), Las Vegas (August 27 to 29) and Amsterdam (December 3 to 5).

Wizards hasn’t announced a price for the box on its own. Expect resellers to list boxes on TCGplayer after the October 19 drop; as of October 15 there were no listings yet.

What’s in Festival in a Box: Atlanta 2026?

  • 1 Mystery Booster Commander Edition box (24 packs)
  • Secret Gallery: Atlanta Foil Edition, a four-card foil Secret Lair drop by Atlanta artists: Parallax Tide, Regrowth, Viridian Revel and Assassin’s Trophy
  • 4 promo cards: full-art, textless foil Dance of the Dead, Tana, the Bloodsower and Tymna the Weaver, plus an Auspicious Aquarium playtest card designed by Mark Rosewater

How does Commander Draft work?

One box is exactly one eight-player pod: each player gets three packs.

  • Open a pack and take two cards per pick, passing left, then right, then left.
  • Build a 60-card Commander deck from your picks plus basic lands, using a commander from your pool.
  • Split into two games of four.
  • Any commander with one color or fewer can be treated as if it has partner, so you can pair two together.

Is Mystery Booster Commander Edition worth $249.99?

For a playgroup, yes. $249.99 covers an eight-player draft (about $31 a person), and you keep the foil Secret Lair and four promos.

For collectors, past Festival in a Box bundles currently sell for about $328 (Las Vegas 2026), $355 (Las Vegas 2025) and $386 (Atlanta 2025) on TCGplayer (checked October 15). That’s no guarantee for this one, and the new cards won’t have real prices until people start opening boxes.

What to skip

  • Paying a reseller before October 19. Wait for the official drop first.
  • Expecting Standard-legal cards. The new cards are legal in Commander from November 13 and in Legacy, Vintage and other Eternal formats from January 1, 2027. Nothing here is Standard-legal.
  • Putting playtest or acorn cards in a Constructed deck. They’re only legal in Mystery Booster Draft and Sealed.
